Measured Moves, Cultural Milestones: How Joon Jun Han is Building ArchAIve to Preserve Heritage with AI

In an ecosystem often defined by hyper-aggressiveness and rapid, unchecked expansion, Joon Jun Han presents a striking contrast.
The NYP top Technology student, who has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and received the A*STAR and NUS Global Merit scholarships, is highly impressive.
Speaking with a slow, deliberate, and measured cadence, Jun Han projects a maturity well beyond his years.
Far from being a sign of hesitation, his calculated and thoughtful approach to every strategic decision has become his defining strength as a founder.
It is precisely this calm, analytical mindset that is propelling his startup, ArchAIve, to the forefront of cultural preservation and enterprise technology.
ArchAIve was born out of a core realization: vast volumes of historical documents, cultural artifacts, and organisational records remain trapped in physical mediums, vulnerable to decay and largely inaccessible to modern research or public appreciation. By harnessing artificial intelligence, ArchAIve digitizes, transcribes, and contextualizes these irreplaceable assets, effectively turning forgotten historical archives into living, searchable knowledge ecosystems.
ArchAIve was chosen as an award winner in the The Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award in 2025. The team members are Joon Jun Han, Evans Yong Cheng Yu, Joshua Long Yu Xuan, Lincoln Lim Ken Yang, Toh Zheng Yu and Trivedi Prakhar Nilesh.
AI for Culture – The Technology Behind ArchAIve
At the technological core of ArchAIve is an advanced integration of Alibaba’s Qwen AI models, specialized to tackle complex optical character recognition and natural language processing tasks. One of the platform’s most remarkable technical capabilities is transcribing complex traditional Chinese calligraphy—often written in fluid, non-standard scripts—into clear, standardised simplified Chinese. The platform then goes a step further, generating accurate English translations and concise summaries, thereby bridging deep linguistic and historical divides for contemporary audiences.
Beyond transcription, ArchAIve converts static collections into dynamic assets. The platform features interactive knowledge bases that allow institutions, researchers, and the general public to query historical texts using natural language. To preserve human and organisational legacies, ArchAIve also integrates facial recognition technology for event photography, indexing key individuals across decades of historical visual media. To complete the lifecycle of archival management, the platform offers optional public-facing portals, unlocking immense post-digitisation value by turning hidden institutional archives into accessible community resources.
Bridging Academic Vision and Enterprise Rigor
The foundation of ArchAIve was laid within the supportive ecosystem of Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).
The institution provided essential incubation support, including invaluable mentorship from experienced faculty and a crucial $5,000 Small Project Funding. The Team has plans to apply for a larger $10,000 Jumpstart Grant in time.
However, transitioning from an academic concept to a commercial enterprise presented an immediate trial by fire.

The team had to quickly navigated financial constraints caused by rigid claim windows tied to startup grants, which created temporary cash flow challenges that demanded careful fiscal management.
As the startup began engaging potential clients, Jun Han encountered a steep learning curve. Success required acquiring non-technical competencies rapidly—specifically in client relationship management, contract negotiations, and cost structure optimisation. Furthermore, moving into the enterprise sphere required meeting stringent data protection standards. Navigating security and regulatory frameworks proved complex, leading to an intense 1.5-month backend re-engineering effort. During this period, the team rebuilt the core infrastructure to satisfy enterprise-grade performance and security demands, establishing a robust foundation for commercial deployment.
The Mindset of a Measured Leader

Jun Han’s composed leadership style was heavily shaped during an internship in Shanghai. Assigned to shadow a corporate CEO in top-level strategic meetings, he received early exposure to high-stakes corporate discussions, executive decision-making, and client negotiations. This experience demystified executive interactions for Jun Han, instilling in him a sense of calm professionalism that now defines how he presents ArchAIve to enterprise clients and institutional stakeholders.
This poise has proven essential in navigating the mental demands of entrepreneurship. Jun Han frequently notes that maintaining personal commitment and focus is the core "mental game" of a startup founder. Whether managing demanding technical overhauls or navigating organizational shifts, his deliberate approach ensures that emotional reactions are replaced by structured problem-solving.
Scaling ASEAN Heritage and Navigating Future Milestones
Today, ArchAIve’s day-to-day project workflows are carried out by a dedicated junior team focused on processing heritage content across Singapore’s four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. Looking ahead, the company aims to scale its platform across the broader ASEAN region. By leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s scalable infrastructure, ArchAIve is establishing a first-mover advantage as the premier "AI for culture" platform across Southeast Asia's diverse linguistic landscape.
Looking forward, Jun Han faces a unique personal transition: completing his mandatory two-year National Service (NS) in Singapore. Rather than viewing this period as an interruption, he views it with his signature pragmatic perspective. He has already developed strategies to maintain technical relevance and oversee high-level strategy during his service, ensuring ArchAIve’s growth momentum remains uninterrupted.
Conclusion
Jun Han’s and his team's journey with ArchAIve demonstrates that successful innovation does not always require frantic speed; often, it requires precision, patience, and purpose. By combining cutting-edge artificial intelligence with a deep respect for historical heritage, he is building a company designed for lasting impact. Driven by a measured leadership style, Jun Han and ArchAIve are uniquely positioned to preserve the past while setting new standards for the future of enterprise cultural technology. ----------
